The incident began when a contractor called the Greenwich Police Department about a horse running around on Round Hill Road in the backcountry, said Lt. John Slusarz.
A couple of officers headed out to the area and found the contractor holding horse. The officers knew there was a large farm in the area with a field where horses stayed so they led the horse to the field and let him go and headed on their way.
A short time later, the department received another call about a horse running around, so Wallace headed back out and, sure enough, he found the horse running around in the roadway.
A neighbor told Wallace that there was a house under construction in the area with a horse barn on the property. So in short sleeves, in the snow, and in the wind, Wallace began walking with the horse for over a mile to find the barn, Slusarz said.
"Wallace said they made friends and had a 'great chat' during their trip," he added.
When they made it to the barn he found that it had been hit by a tree and the door knocked off. Wallace was able to get the horse back into the barn and secured for the stormy night.
"I think the horse just wanted some reassurance that everything was going to be okay like everyone else during the storm," the lieutenant said.
